RESPONDING TO “SNOWFLAKE” BENTLEY
Vermont, November 2021 - 31 December 2021
Artists and scientists are often on parallel paths to the same truth. Bentley, like Monet, was an acute observer of nature, and in so doing discovered a truth. He discovered the organizing hand of nature. What seems chaotic and arbitrary to us, reveals that it is anything but. He found complete order and infinite variety.
My exploration into the many manifestations of frost in my surroundings, mimics Bentley’s process. Through observation and spending endless hours inching my way over the surface that these images revealed, I, too, became lost in nature’s infinite variety and ultimate order. It was as though I was experiencing a field of intelligence and consciousness that exists beyond space and time.
Also on display at the Bennington Musuem were a series of four photographs that inspired ‘Melting Frost’ and the collection ‘A Year Inside’.
